1983 Aston Martin V8
Originally specified by H.M Queen Noor of Jordan on 1st February 1983 as a birthday gift for her husband - long standing Aston Martin client and anglophile, the late H.M King Hussein of Jordan - to be finished in Tourmaline Blue metallic coachwork with Magnolia hide and Beige carpets
H.M Queen Noor specified the car should be constructed to ‘V8 Weber Volante Manual’ Middle East specification with left hand drive steering, but this order was modified during the completion of the car on 20th October to UK specification. This included air pump, UK lighting, MPH speedo to suit 3.54:1 rear axle ratio and the steering to remain LHD (copies of the order documents and notes are retained on file)
First registered on 9th November 1983 and the warranty card issued on 14th November, the King’s 48th birthday, the Volante was used sparingly for the first two years of its life and returned to the factory in October 1985 for the ‘5000 miles’ service, at which point it was converted to RHD.
Maintained by Aston Martin Works until 1994 with mileage reading just 5,090 miles, after which the car was carefully maintained internally by the Royal Garage. The Volante was housed at the King’s UK residence until his passing in February 1999 and remained in Queen Noor’s ownership until 2011.
The Volante was sold in April 2011 to the second owner, Mr Maltzoff of London SW7, who kept the car until May 2016, with mileage recorded at 8,621 miles. We understand Mr Maltzoff drove the car to Marbella during his ownership before it was repatriated to the UK and acquired by the current UK collector owner.
Offered today in exceptional unrestored condition, this incredible low mileage Volante shows just 9,200 miles from new and is a true ‘time warp’ example. With unimpeachable provenance and highly desirable manual and carburettor original specification, documented service history, original warranty card and various sundry invoices, there is no doubt this is one of the finest V8 Volante’s extant and is ready for immediate summer use.
