It’s our pleasure to introduce to you: a classic that changes your view on Italian sports cars forever. Lap times are forgotten easily, showing off no longer appears in your vocabulary and suddenly a flying carpet sounds very realistic. From now on, your living room fears a lonely existence, thanks to one car: this beautiful Ferrari 400 GT 2+2 Coupé, exclusively offered by the second (!) owner, who has possessed the car for the last 20 years.The 400 is equipped with an automatic transmission, a V12 in front (the last Ferrari with this configuration) and a dose of comfort even today’s limousines would be jealous of. But wow it feels good! So enjoy your current chair or couch, because after a test drive in this GT, sitting on it never feels as good as it does now.
The 400 GT is one of the lesser known Ferraris. According to us, that’s completely unjustified. The styling may differ from the average Maranello made car (as far as you can call it “average”), the bodywork of the gran tourer isn’t less elegant or attractive. In fact, it’s the simplicity of the rather straightforward design that has a huge magnetic effect on your eyes.When the model was introduced, however, the design wasn’t completely new. It was based on the 365 GT4 2+2: the first car without a grille between the headlights. For the first time in history, the bonnet was extended all the way to the bumper. A trend that many other brands later on would follow. And a typical styling feature from the 70s ever since. The 400 GT distinguishes itself with modified tail lights (two round units on both sides instead of three), a sharper front spoiler and 5-hole rims. The ice blue paint on this specific Ferrari isn’t immaculate, but timeless indeed. And yet very neat.
The same can be said about the spacious and tasteful upholstered interior. We wrote it before: sitting in the 4-seater Coupé is a special and pleasant experience. It's like stepping into a totally different dimension, with comfortable full leather beige seats and a big center console as the ultimate “showcase” for the automatic transmission. That really is something, because the 400 GT is the first Ferrari delivered automatically with an automatic transmission, including 3 gears. A manual gearbox was on the option list for a change.
And there was more distinction compared to the 365 GT4 2 + 2: the engine capacity grew from 4390 to 4823 cc. The smooth character of the giant V12 longs a relaxed way of driving, which automatically explains the choice for an automatic transmission. The technical maintenance of this Ferrari has been carried out by a specialist. You can feel it right away: the 12-cylinder drags the driver and his passengers confidently into a unique world.
